His expertise in haircut design and as a color specialist, combined with his passion in the art of hair design and innovation in form and technique, earned him a spot on Bravo’s Shear Genius, season 3 – not as a contestant – but as one of casting judges.
When you sit in BJ’s chair, his goal is to give you what you want and he’ll work with you until you are happy. That level of trust between BJ and his clients has led to brand loyalty – with clients crossing state lines, including those who fly into San Diego from Las Vegas, San Francisco and New York - or those who brave LA to San Diego traffic – just to be sure they get their hair cut from a pro like BJ.
BJ has dedicated his career to relentless study to the profession of cosmetology. He is considered one of San Diego's premiere hair stylists and advanced hair color specialists. His talents have been recognized by respected educators for his mastery and skills in the art of hair design.
His studies led him to renowned institutions and programs such as; Joico, Toni & Guy, Russell Parks Champion Academy, Vidal Sassoon, and many more. He has been invited to be a platform artist and design team member with Joico International. In this role, BJ travels worldwide every year, teaching the art of hair design, working on photo shoots and showcasing new trends in the Joico collection, while working alongside the artistic director of color and cutting.
BJ’s high honor certificates and awards for his outstanding methodology in the art of hair cutting and advanced hair coloring generated enough buzz to earn him gigs with celebrities including Shannon Doherty, David Carradine, Suzanne Somers and Ryan Gossling. He’s also worked with the National Academy of Arts and Sciences in San Diego (the Emmy's), Body By Jake and Fit TV as a stylist for commercials, and countless professional photo shoot sessions.
BJ has been published in several of the industries' top hairstyling magazines in the United States and abroad, (Hairdo Ideas, British editions of Hair Magazines, Sophisticates' Hair Style Guide, Shortcuts, Coiffure OZ., International Hair Designs).
He owns and operates MODA HAIR DESIGNS in Hillcrest, San Diego. He continues to make his services available to the public, including advanced cutting and color classes at MODA for hairdressers working in the industry.
